More Heart the Art

The week 5 Prompt for Heart the Art was Thrive.

Journaling says: How can our children thrive when we live in a society that strives for mediocrity? If everyone strives to be equal then no one stands out as special. If no one stands out as special, no one strives to shine.

I started out doodling the boo face and raven with the mini-city-scape. Not that they have anything to do with the message :o) It was a convenient piece of paper to jot my thoughts down on.

Pencil Lines 173

Here's this week's sketch.

Here's my take on this week's sketch.

I also used the journaling prompt "Clearly" from Heart the Art.

The journaling reads: I love not wearing my glasses while sitting still in a quiet space. Everything is a blur. Ordinary items gain new life. Treasures hidden all around me while life is in focus become visible when I look beyond the obvious. Maybe that's a problem with today's society...we're too blinded by the obvious to see all the hidden treasures in everyday life all around us.

She's inspiring!

I've been very unhappy at my job since October 30th. Before that I was just sorta unhappy some days but mostly OK. Then October 30th I took a pay cut and another person in my office received her second promotion in a year. Now, you might think I'm a bad employee if this sort of thing happens and maybe I'm in denial, but I think it has more to do with politics. Everyone else in the company can see how much work she doesn't do except the person responsible for her promotions. And the pay cut was company-wide, made in an effort to avoid having to lay anyone off. This company is more politically driven then any other I've worked for.

Either way, I've grown to resent most of my superiors, my direct boss being the only thing that made me come back to work on November 2nd. So, I've been looking for another job and as many people know, good jobs are few and far between! In my job hunt, I came across a posting for an Office Administrator (I currently work in the Publishing and Advertising Operations department of a publishing company) at New England Felting Supply. I tend to do a lot of research on any company I'm considering applying at. In my search for information on this particular company, I have become giddy with creative desire! The owner, Chris White, started Magpie Designs out of her home and later opened the retail store. I can't stop reading about her work and looking through the galleries.

The company sells loose wool and teaches felting classes. I've learned a lot of what I thought felting was isn't really felting at all and I've seen some amazing things I never would have thought possible. Even if I don't get a job with them, I'm taking some classes for sure! The creations are so soft and flowing... magical!

Loving my Glaze pens

I've picked up these pens several dozen times and always chose to wait to buy them.. until last week. I love love love them! I love how I can layer them and they don't get all muddy and I love the shine! They're nearly magical (can you tell by all the !!!).

Here's my latest creation using them (Please forgive the really bad image, I'm growing impatient with winter and taking all my pics indoors at night).

This is my second art journal page for A Year in the Life of an Art Journal. The prompt is "Hope". I hear a lot of people use hope in a positive manner but to me, it's the easy way out for those who lack conviction. "The expectation of fulfillment or success." I don't like expectation. I like action. If you would like to see something fulfilled, then go out and fulfill it!
